Event Details

On Saturday 28th April to Sunday 29th April 2012

A 2-day workshop for exploring the power of story for revealing or conveying, in organisations and communities, a depth and richness of meaning not otherwise readily accessible.

Who is it for?

If your interests lie in investigating the deeper aspects of commmunity and organisational culture, then this workshop is for you. If you'd like to be able to use story-based techniques to enrich other tools and processes, you'll find value in this workshop.

Consultants, facilitators, researchers, educators, leaders -- anyone seeking to go beyond the obvious -- will learn valuable and practical techniques and skills.

What?

The workshop content will be largely determined according to the needs of participants. However, the main emphasis is likely to be the use of story (or anecdote or narrative, as it is also called) for diagnostic purposes and for reframing existing stories. Depending on participant interest, topics may include:

    • diagnostic interviews using story
    • story circles -- collecting stories in small groups
    • analysing, interpreting and reporting on themes from collected stories
    • the use of archetypes in diagnosis and in story telling
    • story-based intervention techniques: visioning; history trip; fairy story; appreciative inquiry interviews
    • crafting stories, and restorying existing narratives
    • embodied story -- bringing the whole person to story
    • story-based techniques for relationship building.

How?

The workshop will use a balanced mix of theory, activity and practice. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the techniques as both participants and facilitators.

Facilitators?

The workshop facilitator will be Bob Dick. Bob's reputation as an educator, facilitator and consultant is based on more than 35 years of relevant experience, including the use of story. The workshop style will be casual and participative, using robust and learnable processes. There will be clear and practical documentation. With equal emphasis on the development of skills and understanding, theory and practice will be well integrated. Our aim is that you will be able to make immediate use of what you learn.
